Entering Spain without hiring a local team first
What we did to take a UK app into Spain without building a local team on day one, and which results we will not invent.
Entering Spain is not a translation of the homepage, and it is not a job ad for a local SDR on day one. For a UK app that already had a large home audience and no Spanish presence, Unlock wrote the entry plan, adapted the brand, found local partners, and coordinated the launch. They now operate in Spain with a growing user base. We do not publish a user count for that launch, because we did not measure one we are willing to stand behind.
What “on the ground” meant in this case
The client was one of the UK’s most popular digital apps. The product worked at home. Spain was a blank market. The full case is the record. The work was:
- Pick the first user segments in Spain, the channels, and the order of the launch.
- Rewrite the message so it sounds native without throwing away the brand.
- Map and contact local distribution and commercial partners.
- Line up product, marketing, and commercial dates so the launch was one sequence, not four teams guessing.
That is market entry as an operator engagement. It is a different job from the outbound we run for B2B pipeline. Cold email to office managers is Fudeat. A founder who needs meetings on a SaaS calendar is the Series A outbound engine. Spain, in this case, was partners and positioning, not a send queue.
When hiring locally first is the worse move
Hire a country manager or an SDR in Spain when you already know the segment, the offer in Spanish, and who the partners are. Hiring before that buys a person who has to invent the market while you learn it. We have also done outbound and port-sector work inside Spain; those are separate cases. This note is only the UK-to-Spain app launch.
If the catalog, the brand, or the partner list is still a guess, a local hire will not fix it. Fix the entry plan first. The market expansion section is that offer: analysis, entry, and a commercial presence until there is traction.
Email contact@unlockmanagement.com with the country and what you already know about the buyer there. We reply within 24 business hours. There is no public rate card.
